Her Grandma Sue came to visit for her birthday.  We had a great time visiting the zoo and also riding the trolley cars around downtown and Ybor City.

Kayla has been super busy as she's finished her 1st 9 weeks of 1st grade. She just got her report card and did excellent! We're super proud of her. She's worked really hard the first 9 weeks. I really can't believe all her class has learned so far. They do a lot of reading and writing. In math, they've covered addition and are moving into subtraction. They learn it from several different angles these days which is quite different from how I learned.

She also got a recent visit from her Pennsylvania aunts! Aunt Bette made her a great costume (Skippy Jon Jones) for her storybook parade. It was so nice, I'm sure we'll save it for Jake to wear one day.

I added a picture of Kayla from a Daisy outing and one of her in her dance clothes. Also, in her spare time, she's become the neighbohood hula hoop queen.

Here are some shots from July...

This weekend her Uncle Trev visited so we took a trip to the local zoo. It was a hot one but the kids cooled off in the water play areas and on the log flume. Kayla and Trevor took a wild spin on the roller coaster too.

The next shot is from a birthday party for our friend Tabatha. It was at a place filled with bounce houses and Kayla fell asleep on the car ride home!

The last shot is from the 4th of July weekend at the beach. It's basically been a real hot July but we've made the best of it!

She also had her 6 year check up this month. She's 44lbs (50%) and 44 inches tall (25%). All in all she's doing great, having fun this summer and looking forward to 1st grade.

Here are a few pictures of Kayla's summer play -- Alice in Wonderland. She was a flower and had so much fun doing the production. They opened the play with various magic acts and songs and then performed the musical.

Alice in Wonderland was done at the end of June and this week she'll be performing in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. This time, she says she's playing the part of the head squirrel.

Both Kayla and her brother had a wonderful Easter. In addition to the Easter bunny, all their grandparents and several aunts and uncles were thinking of them and sent them some fabulous gifts. Lucky kids! They are loved.
Kayla got a nintendo DSI game, Minnie Easter basket, Uno, doll clothes, paper dolls, Uno, a little fur real dog, Veggie tales DVD, a beautiful purple butterfly dress and more. Not to mention a chocolate bunny, peanut butter eggs, and jelly beans. She also found all the eggs and left none for her brother. Oh well, he didn't seem to mind. But, wait till next year!

As usual, it was a busy week for Kayla. The highlight was the daddy/daughter dance that she got to go to on Saturday night for Daisies. It was a tropical Hawaiian theme complete with lots of dancing and fun. A few weeks ago they taught them the Macarena, Elecric slide and Cha Cha so she got to practice her new moves.

Earlier in the week she started some piano lessons. The good news is that she enjoyed her first lesson. These are just for a few more weeks but it's a nice freebie from her aftercare program that should continue next year.

Her kindergarten class continues to keep her busy with assignments. This week there was an extra credit project. Her assignment was to find out about Hummingbirds and then give a report to her class. She learned how effective Google can be! She enjoyed printing out some fun facts on Hummingbirds and then sharing with her class.

Sadly, she started on her last 9 weeks of school this past week. It's been a year of learning for sure. She's had to do a "book report" every week (which still amazes me because its just kindergarten). At the begining of the year, I would read her the books, but now she reads them on her own. She has to explain the setting and the characters, draw pictures and write a sentence or two about the books. Her reading is taking off so much that I just bought her first chapter book -- Junie B. Jones. It's a whole series of paperbacks and she seems to be enjoying this first book.
