MEET BABY KYLE

We asked Kayla what she wanted to name her baby and she chose to name her BABY KYLE. She took a liking to our friends baby named Kyle and I guess the name stuck with her. She's such a good little mommy too. She likes to push her around the neighborhood in her stroller and she puts her backpack on which usually has her bottles in it.

READY FOR A BIG GIRL BED?
We thought we'd let Kayla try out sleeping on a twin bed instead of in the crib this weekend. We had bought bed rails for both sides and gave it a shot Friday night. By 6:30 am, I hadn't heard a peep and all had gone well. Then, around 6:45 we heard a big THUD followed a few seconds later by crying! I ran in to find that she rolled herself off the end of the bed and landed on the hardwood floor-- the only 2 feet around the bed that didn't have pillows and blankets lining it. Not the best way to wake up, if you can imagine. The rest of the day, when she was grumpy, we couldn't help but ask if she woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Haha.

So, we're not sure if this is a permanent switch or not, but we'll see. I've heard mixed thoughts on when to switch to the big bed. Many people these days are actually recommending to wait closer to age 3, but there are still others suggesting age 2. Saturday night, she made it through a whole night in the big bed and stayed by the top of the bed. Not sure yet what we'll do tonight since it's a school/work night for everyone!

Toilet training continued this week with some successes and some signs of losing interest. She's almost always dry in the morning, but sometimes she has no interest in using the potty. Or like yesterday, she used it after her nap which was great. But later before her bath, Mike was filling the tub and I went to go get her little potty. Mike asked if she would please go potty before getting in the tub. She smiled and said yes, but proceeded to pee right there on the tile floor. We have to be careful what we ask for!

The picture above is of her "reading" one of her Dora books. She's starting to enjoy leafing through them on her own and reciting the stories as she knows them.

SAY CHEESE

If you tell Kayla you want to take her picture, she'll try to smile for you and here's what you'll get! This one's with 2 of her best friends - Boog and Dolly.

Kayla had a good week at school learning all about Africa. It's ironic because her Grandma Sue is there now. Kayla knows that you can find lions, giraffes and elephants there.

She's also been doing a pretty good job of using the potty lately, even at school. She's still in diapers, but she stays dry during the night and during naps. At school last week, she used the potty about twice every day. At home, we're usually able to get her to use the big potty first thing in the morning.

Her nurturing instincts are kicking in real big lately too. Kayla likes to pull out every one of her clean diapers and put them on all her dolls and stuffed animals. This has been going on for the last couple weeks.

Also, last week at school, one of her friends, Max, was upset because his mom hadn't picked him up yet. Kayla said, "It's ok, your mommy's coming. Let's go play." The teacher told me that and I thought it was so cute.

2 YEAR CHECK UP

Kayla had her 2 yr check up a few weeks ago. Just for the record books, here are her stats:

25 lbs
32 and 1/4 inches tall
18 and 3/4 head circumference
15-25 percentile for height and weight
(If the doctor had to estimate her future height, she'd guess 5'4")

She did amazingly well at the doctor, especially if you saw some of her past visits where she held on to me with every bit of strength she had. She has a toy stethoscope at home so we kept telling her that the doctor would listen to her heart, look in her mouth, and look in her ears.

Kayla sat very still while the doctor listened to her heart and she opened her mouth real big when the doctor looked in her throat. She also turned her head from side to side so the doctor could look in her ears. The doctor was impressed.

The best part was when the nurse came in to give her the Hep A shot--her last vaccine for a while. Right before she came in, I told Kayla that the nurse was going to give her a shot and then she'd get a nice band aid and a lollipop. Kayla sat still for the shot and when the needle went in, she didn't even flinch or cry! The nurse and I looked at each other amazed! What a difference a year makes.

Aside from the doctor's measurements, here are some of her other stats:

Size clothes: 2T
Size shoes: 5 and 1/2 but moving to 6 soon
# of Teeth: 11
